BYU Jazz Voices, Women's Vocal Jazz perform Nov. 10

Jazz recording artist Kelly Eisenhour to direct

The Brigham Young University School of Music's Jazz Voices and Women's Vocal Jazz will perform under the direction of jazz recording artist and educator Kelly Eisenhour Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free.

The concert will open with the 16-voice women's choir, Women's Vocal Jazz. They will begin with a rhythm section followed by a swing arrangement of the classic "You Made Me Love You" by Joe McCarthy and James Monaco. They will end their performance with "Centerpiece" arranged by Eisenhour.

"The music is chosen for variety, to bring knowledge to the students of all different styles of jazz, and the selections must be a challenge, to bring the most growth to the musicianship of each singer and player," Eisenhour said.

BYU Jazz Voices, a nine-voice choir, will follow performing a variety of jazz music including classic swing, Latin jazz, fast-paced blues and a cappella. Pieces they will sing include "To Dare the Moon" by New York Voices and Grammy Award-winning "A Nightingale Sand in Berkeley Square" by Eric Maschwitz and Manning Sherwin.

"Jazz music is meant to be heard live, the spontaneity of it is exciting and exhilarating," Eisenhour said. "If you are not sure you like jazz and have never been to a live jazz concert, give us a try."

Members of the two choirs auditioned and were chosen out of approximately 70 participants. Participation in the two choirs is open to music and non music majors.

For more information contact Kelly Eisenhour at (801) 360-6101.
