BYU Jazz Ensemble plans Dec. 5 concert

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Jazz Ensemble in concert Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The concert, directed by Lyle Durland, is a class recital of toe-tapping jazz with four trumpets, five trombones, five saxophones, a piano, bass, drums and guitar.

"This is probably the best free concert of the year," Durland said. "This is a very dynamic and talented group. And there is a great variety of fast and slow, soft and loud music."

Some of the program tunes include an arrangement of "All Blues" by Miles Davis, "Friday Night at the Cadillac Club" by Bob Berg, and "Malaguena," a classic arrangement by Stan Kenton.

"It's a fun show because it's very casual," Durland said. "The jazz concert format is different because we encourage the positive feedback from the audience almost immediately. It's almost a dialogue between the audience and the band."

For more information, contact Lyle Durland at (801) 377-4280.
