BYU International Study Program plans Sept. 15 open house

Brigham Young University students interested in learning more about world educational opportunities are invited to attend the International Study Program’s fall open house on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

The event is sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.

Each department-sponsored program will be represented, from social sciences to humanities, and former program participants will be available to share their firsthand experiences and answer students’ questions.

"One of our goals is to help students understand how valuable an international educational experience can be," said T. Lynn Elliott, program director. “For a dedicated student, an international experience is simply invaluable.”

Elliott advises students to plan early to incorporate an international experience into their curricula. Many programs are recruited a year in advance.

Last year, International Study Programs sent almost 1,300 students to foreign countries for study abroad, international internships, international volunteer or international field study programs on every continent, with the exception of Antarctica.

"In my years dealing with international student programs, the vast majority of students report that their international experience is life changing—often in unexpected ways," said Elliott. "Many students have said their experience opened up career paths or gave them a leg up in getting into professional or graduate schools."

Applications for programs are available online and financial aid options are available for qualifying students. For more information, visit kennedy.byu.edu/isp.
