BYU hosts free recitals Nov. 9-16

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will present three free concerts beginning Wednesday, Nov. 9.

BYU Jazz Voices and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kelly Eisenhour, will perform swing favorites Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The Cougar Marching Band, conducted by Don Peterson, will perform its only indoor concert of the year Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Two flute choirs, the Silver Breeze Choir directed by Jennifer Mordock and the BYU Flute Choir directed by April Clayton, will present a concert Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Selections will include arrangements of pieces such as “Simple Gifts” and the Overture from “The Wasps.”

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
