BYU hosts annual Families Under Fire conference Oct. 2-3

The Division of Continuing Education at Brigham Young University will host the annual "Families Under Fire" conference Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2-3, at the Conference Center on the BYU campus.

The theme of this year's conference is "Off to the Rescue We'll Hasten, Bringing Them Back to the Fold."

The conference, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, is open to everyone.

The fee for the conference is $60 for one person and $95 for a couple. BYU faculty and staff members and their spouses may register for free. Those interested in registering can call (801) 378-8925 or go online at http://familiesunderfire.byu.edu. A complete list of speakers and the schedule is available online as well.

The conference is designed to give specific hands-on information and hope to people who are struggling or dealing with different problems that affect society, families and individuals. The conference features speakers who are experts in the fields of therapy, counseling and family issues.

"In 'Families Under Fire,' we deal with a lot of the issues that come up that are difficult, whether they deal with pornography or drugs or divorce or marriage relationships," said Robert Holcombe, program administrator for Conferences and Workshops at Continuing Education.

"This is a day and age where a lot of issues come into families beyond the normal kinds of getting kids off to school and trying to have family prayer," he said.

The conference is sponsored by Religious Education, the BYU Alumni Association, KBYU and the College of Marriage, Family and Human Development.
