BYU to host Student Research Conference

29th Annual Conference to be held on March 21

Brigham Young University's College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (CPMS) will host the 2015 Student Research Conference (SRC) on March 21.

Featuring the work of over 400 students, the Student Research Conference gives undergraduates and graduates a unique opportunity to present the findings of their original research to an audience of faculty, staff, family, friends and community members.

"This is a wonderful chance for us to showcase the great work being performed here at BYU, and it also represents a terrific opportunity for the students to gain valuable experience presenting and explaining their research to an audience, further preparing them for their future endeavors," said CPMS Dean Scott Sommerfeldt.

Over the past decade, CPMS has made a concerted effort to fund research projects that pair undergraduate students with a faculty mentor, allowing them to work one-on-one to conduct important scientific and mathematical research and gain first-hand experience. These unique opportunities provide students with a fuller, more comprehensive scientific education-preparing them to move on to graduate school or take a job in industry and excel immediately.

"We're proud of our commitment to undergraduate research and the great experiences it provides for our students," Sommerfeldt said. "These young scientists and mathematicians are conducting important, cutting-edge research that may someday change the world. We look forward to sharing a glimpse of that with the community at this year's Student Research Conference."

The 2015 Student Research Conference will take place on Saturday, March 21 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Jesse Knight Building on the BYU campus. Parking is free, and members of the public and press are invited to attend. More information is available at src.byu.edu.
