BYU to host 31st Annual Summer Institute of Applied Statistics June 21-23

Early registration deadline is May 22

The Department of Statistics at Brigham Young University will host the 31st Annual Summer Institute of Applied Statistics Wednesday through Friday, June 21-23, at various locations on campus.

The deadline for early registration is May 22. After May 22, registration prices will increase, and any registration after June 9 will incur a $100 late fee. For more information and to register online, visit statistics.byu.edu/summerinstitute or contact Kathi Carter at (801) 422-4506 or kathi_carter@byu.edu.

R. Todd Ogden, an associate professor of biostatistics at Columbia University, will address the topic, “Essential Wavelets for Statistical Applications and Data Analysis.” Ogden, with a joint appointment in psychiatry, has conducted much of his research on statistical problems in the analysis of brain imaging data.

The study of wavelets has become an important tool in many areas of statistical application, including density estimation, time series analysis, nonparametric regression and functional data analysis. The BYU institute will provide a basic introduction to wavelets and their practical applications to a variety of real-world situations.
