BYU to honor alumnus, Gulf War veteran during a memorial service April 1

Brigham Young University will honor an alumnus and Gulf War veteran during a memorial service Friday, April 1, at 2 p.m. in the East Ballroom of the Wilkinson Student Center.

Captain Bill Jacobsen was killed in Iraq, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004. Upon graduation from BYU, Capt. Jacobsen was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Army through the Army ROTC Program.

As part of the services Capt. Jacobsen's name will be officially unveiled on the BYU Memorial Wall by his wife, Riikka and their four children.

Elder W. Rolfe Kerr, First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Commissioner of Church Education and Capt. Jacobsen's mission president will speak at the Memorial.

The memorial service is open to the public.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
