BYU Homecoming Opening Ceremonies Oct. 20 at Marriott Center

The Brigham Young University Homecoming Opening Ceremonies will introduce the theme for Homecoming 2009, “Reach for the Summit,” Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. The ceremonies will not be broadcast.

BYUSA President Elise May will host the event, which will feature head football coach Bronco Mendenhall, the Cougar Marching Band, the winner of the George H. Brimhall essay contest and special highlights from the Homecoming “Spectacular!” featuring the Men’s Chorus and the Women’s Chorus. President Cecil O. Samuelson and Sharon Samuelson will also speak to the student body during the event.

The ceremonies will introduce this year’s honored founder, Eugene Lusk Roberts, BYU’s first athletic director.

After the opening ceremonies, the Cougar Marching Band will lead the crowd to Brigham Square for a free Homecoming barbecue.

BYU celebrates Homecoming every fall, inviting students and alumni to honor the university’s legacy.
