BYU gallery to celebrate Honor Week with FHE activity Feb. 18

The Education in Zion Gallery at Brigham Young University will be holding a special Family Home Evening titled “Teachers of Honor: a tribute to Karl G. Maeser” on Monday, Feb. 18, at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

In conjunction with the school’s Honor Week, the program will focus on honorable teachers from the past. Discussion of honorable teachers will include Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith and teachers from the pioneer era of Utah history, such as Karl G. Maeser. Limited edition t-shirts will be given to the first 25 participants.

“I don’t feel like you can become a person of honor without being aware of honorable examples,” gallery educator Camlyn Giddins said. “This FHE is special because it talks about teachers of honor and how these teachers positively impacted their students.”

Honor Week was reinstated in 2011 by the BYU Student Services Association to inspire students about BYU’s Honor Code. It focuses on honoring the commitments students and faculty have made.

The Education in Zion Gallery is located in the Joseph F. Smith Building west of the Harold B. Lee Library on campus. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery stays open until 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
