BYU Fine Arts and Entertainment calendar for October 2007

BYU September 2007 Fine Arts and Entertainment Calendar

At the BYU Museum of Art:

— “American Dreams: Selected Works from the Museum's Permanent Collection of American Art,” is an ongoing exhibition that examines artworks created by 18th, 19th and 20th century American artists as ideas or visions of America. This expanded exhibition of the Museum's permanent American art collection is presented on both levels of the Museum and includes prints, sculpture, photography and painting.

— “Cliché and Collusion: Video Works by Grant Stevens” will be on display through Feb. 9, 2008. The exhibition presents a collection of video installations by contemporary multimedia artist Grant Stevens.  The exhibited works incorporate familiar excerpts from advertising, music, film and common conversation.  In their juxtapositions the works build a dialogue about popular culture as well as communication and language.

— “Minerva Teichert: Pageants in Paint” will be featured through May 26, 2008. The exhibition examines how the American mural and pageantry movements influenced Teichert’s artistic production through 47 of her large-scale narrative murals. It also explores how Teichert’s personal dramatic flair contributed to the theatrical characteristics of her murals of religious and Western subjects.

Admission to all exhibits is free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information on exhibits and museum programs, call (801) 422-ARTS.
