"150 Years of American Painting" available at the BYU Museum of Art is a permanent collection of paintings by renowned artists such as Frederic Edwin Church, Maynard Dixon, John Singer Sargent, and many local Utah favorites such as Mahonri Young.
"Beneath the Bark: Twenty-Five Years of Woodworking" at the BYU Museum of Art features work created by leading woodturners from over a dozen countries in a new exhibition. The exhibit runs through Saturday, July 31. Admission to the exhibition is free and the public is welcome to attend. The exhibition is funded by the Utah Woodturning Symposium.
The Museum of Art presents "Camera and Soul: Milton Goldstein's Photographs of National Parks" on display through Sept. 11, 2004. Admission is free. "Camera and Soul" simultaneously looks at the work of an individual photographer while highlighting some of the cultural trends of the 1960s and '70s that contributed to his accomplishments.
"Metaphorically Speaking: Contemporary Religious Art" will run through Jan. 8, 2005 at the BYU Museum of Art. The exhibit explores the use of visual symbols as parables and metaphors to open new levels of inquiry and understanding. Admission is free.

KBYU-FM, Classical 89 continues its program "About Shakespeare," a radio series that explores the writings of Britain's greatest author. The program, broadcast on KBYU-FM at 89.1 FM and 89.5 FM and online at www.kbyufm.org Fridays at 6:30 p.m. with repeats on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m., features BYU faculty and other experts in the field. The series is hosted by Sharon Swenson from the BYU Department of Theatre and Media Arts.

The Brigham Young University Department of Theatre and Media Arts and the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Latter-day Saint History present "Discoveries: Two Centuries of Poems by Mormon Women" in the Nelke Experimental Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The performance is a presentation of poetry and song based on the new publication of the same title compiled and edited by Susan Elizabeth Howe and Sheree Maxwell Bench. The Department of Theatre and Media Arts presents Michael Frayn's Tony award-winning play "Copenhagen" in the Margetts Theatre in the Harris Fine Arts Center May 12-29 with previews May 12-13 and a matinee May 22. Winning three Tony Awards for its Broadway run, this play is a compelling story of a dreamworld unfettered by the rules that govern time and space. The play visits and re-visits a crucial but undocumented 1941 meeting in Copenhagen between World War II's foremost atomic scientists on each side of the conflict. The German Heisenberg meets the Danish Bohr and his wife to look for answers and to work out – just as they had worked out the internal functioning of the atom – how they can ever know what to do, and why.

The Baker-Sellheim Duo will perform works by Dvorak, Brahms and others in the Madsen Rectial Hall at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Deseret Chamber Music Fesitval. Dian Baker and Eckart Sellheim concertize as a piano duo in the United States and Europe, performing mainstream works as well as lesser-known and contemporary pieces. Baker is currently working on a doctorate in piano accompanying at Arizona State University. Sellheim is a professor of piano at Arizona State University and teaches fortepiano at Musikhochschule in Trossingen, Germany. Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for seniors and students. "Papa Married a Mormon" will be performed beginning May 26 in the Pardoe Theatre at 7:30 p.m. with previews May 26-27 and a matinee performance June 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $9 with a BYU or student ID. Seats for previews and matinee performances are $5. Adapted from the novel by John D. Fitzgerald, the play tells the story of Tom Fitzgerald, an Irish-Catholic newspaperman who marries Tina, the daughter of a Mormon bishop, and how they wonder how their young family can thrive in a polarized community. Set against the backdrop of a small Mormon settlement in nineteenth-century Utah, this Utah premiere will be presented in a charming reader's theatre production that highlights this best-selling novel's warm and inviting family story.

The Special Collections Motion Picture Archives Film Series presents "Since You Went Away" at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, including best picture, best actress and best supporting actress, the film follows a mother and two daughters whose husband and father is overseas during World War II. The movie was produced by David O. Selznick and stars Claudette Colbert, Jennifer Jones and Shirley Temple. A Memorial Day tribute, the film will be shown in the rarely seen 172-minute version. Admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Early arrival is recommended as seating is limited. Children ages 8 and over are welcome.
