BYU Fine Arts and Entertainment Calendar for April 2008

Wednesday, April 2

The BYU Wind Symphony will present a farewell concert for conductor David Blackinton in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, will be the site of the String Chamber Night conducted by Claudine Bigelow at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Thursday and Friday, April 3-4

Featuring music, dance and theater students, the BFA New York Showcase will take place in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

Tuesday, April 8

The university bands will come together to provide a free concert in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m.

The School of Music will present a “Brass Chamber Night” showcase in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The University Chorale under the direction of Paul Broomhead will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle, 100 South University Ave. Admission is free.

Wednesday, April 9

Synthesis, directed by Ray Smith, will perform jazz classics in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, or $7 with a BYU or student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The BYU Flute Choir will present a free concert in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 10

BYU’s Jazz Voices and Vocal Jazz will present a concert in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. All seats are $6. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The BYU Honors Brass Quintet will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Karl G. Maeser Building auditorium on the south end of campus.

Friday, April 11

The BYU Singers and Concert Choir will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.Friday and Saturday, April 11-12

A cast of 164 Brigham Young University dancers will move to the rhythms of samba, swing and waltz during the 27th annual Ballroom Dance Company Concert, “Seize the Beat,” on Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, in the Marriott Center. Performances will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $12 for the evening shows and $10 for the matinee. To purchase tickets, call the Marriott Center Ticket Office at (801) 422-BYU1 or 1-800-322-BYU1.

Tuesday, April 15

Jay Lawrence will direct a Jazz Combo Night in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
