BYU Fine Arts and Communications offers free download of Christmas video card

Taken from "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ" exhibit at Museum of Art

Brigham Young University's College of Fine Arts and Communications is making available three free moving image and music videos online from its 2006 Christmas greeting card.

The images are taken from the current exhibit at BYU's Museum of Art, "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ," which features more than 170 prints, icons, illuminated manuscripts and sculptures from diverse times and creeds.

Many of the images are set to three tracks of music performed by students from BYU's School of Music.

"The images from 'Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ' from the Museum of Art combined with beautiful music from the School of Music deserve to be seen and heard by hundreds and thousands of people," said Stephen Jones, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications. "While there's no narration, these pieces speak volumes about our reverence for Jesus Christ. I hope they'll touch all who see them."

The exhibition will be on display — and downloads will be available — through June 16, 2007. To learn more about the exhibition and to download the free moving image videos and music, visit http://beholdingsalvation.byu.edu and click on feature presentation.

This is the first year the College of Fine Arts and Communications has posted media downloads online.

"Each year we prepare Christmas cards that go to thousands of people," Jones claimed. "This year we wanted our card to be available to a much wider audience."

The musical selections include:

  • "I Stand All Amazed," text and music by Charles H. Gabriel, setting by Robert Lee Rowberry, from the CD "Sabbath Song" featuring faculty artist Clayne Robison, baritone.

  • "My Redeemer Lives," text by Samuel Medley, music by Christine H. Davis, from the CD "My Redeemer Lives" featuring the BYU Singers.

  • "Behold, This Is the Way," text adapted from 2 Nephi 31:21, music by Robert Cundick, from the CD "The Redeemer: A Sacred Service of Music" featuring the BYU Singers and Concert Choir and the Philharmonic Orchestra. All music used is by permission of Tantara Records, www.TantaraRecords.com.
