BYU film series to feature Cary Grant, Loretta Young in "The Bishop's Wife" Dec. 2

"The Bishop's Wife," a 1947 classic film starring Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven, will be shown at the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium at Brigham Young University Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. No food or drink is permitted in the auditorum, and children age eight and older are welcome.

"This delightful story of an angel who comes to help a clergyman raise funds for a new cathedral and at the same time mend his marriage is our Christmas gift to the community," said James V. D'Arc, curator of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Motion Picture Archive and director of the film series. Grant, as the angel Dudley, plays one of the most unusual and highly effective roles of his career.

"The Bishop's Wife" was produced by Samuel Goldwyn and directed by Henry Koster, whose papers are part of the permanent holdings of Special Collections. The Oscar-nominated score is by Hugo Friedhofer, whose scores and original recordings are also part of the BYU collection. A limited-edition compact disc of the original music has been produced by the BYU Motion Picture Archives and will be available at the screening.

The film series is sponsored by Friends of the Harold B. Lee Library and Dennis and Linda Gibson. A complete list of this season's film screenings is available at sc.lib.byu.edu.
