BYU faculty recital to feature Schubert's "Winterreise" Sept. 22

Brigham Young University School of Music faculty member Lawrence Vincent will present a recital featuring the song cycle “Winterreise” on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Vincent will be accompanied by Jared Oaks on the piano and also by abstract lithograph images created by Brian Cohen. Admission to the recital is free and the public is welcome .

This popular song cycle was created by Franz Schubert who based it on poems written by Wilhelm Müller. It is a heart-rending portrayal of a winter journey full of misery, woe and lost love, said Lawrence.

Origami-inspired space tech: BYU mechanical engineers create deployable systems for NASA and U.S. Air Force

BYU’s Compliant Mechanisms Research lab, inspired by the ancient art of origami, is building a foldable, compact design that could help launch satellite systems to space in a rocket. After five years of research, a team led by professors Larry Howell and Spencer Magleby has succeeded in creating foldable antenna systems than can deploy off space rockets and permanently open to enhance satellite systems.
