Ever heard of The Babysitters Club series, the Tea Rex series, or Beast Feast? How about Flora and the Flamingo? The authors and/or illustrators of these books are coming to Provo this July! The BYU Symposium on Books for Young Readers (bfyr.byu.edu) is entering its 29th and most exciting year yet this July 14-15. Each year BYU Books for Young Readers invites six award-winning authors and illustrators of children’s books to present their insights and ideas.
This year's authors – Molly Idle, Ann M. Martin, Kristyn Crow, Elizabeth Wein, Steve Sheinkin and Douglas Florian – are joining librarians, teachers and lovers of children’s literature at the annual conference. The six authors and illustrators together have won two Newbery Honors, a Caldecott Honor, an Edgar Award, a Blue Ribbon Book Award, a Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, a Printz Honor and many other honors and awards.
Books for Young Readers symposium attendees will be able to talk with the authors in small groups and listen to their unique perspectives on children’s literature. There will be two autograph sessions where authors will sign books for attendees. See the full schedule at bfyr.byu.edu. The symposium is held at the Provo City Library.
BYU employees and their spouses may be eligible for tuition benefits and discounts. Credit is available for those interested, and students can come at a very discounted rate.
