BYU Chamber Orchestra will present pretour program March 17

The Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra will perform Friday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $9 or $6 with BYU or student ID. To purchase tickets, call the Fine Arts Tickets Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

Conducted by Kory Katseanes, the Chamber Orchestra is BYU’s touring orchestra, which is in session every other year. This concert is the second of three programs the Chamber Orchestra will perform in preparation for its tour to the British Isles in May.

The program begins with Rossini’s “La Scala de Seta,” a familiar opera used in many Warner Brother’s cartoons. Graduate student Kayson Brown will conduct Five Variants of “Dives and Lazarus,” by Ralph Vaughn Williams based on the English folk melody recognized as the tune of “If You Could Hie to Kolob.”

Ottorino Respighi’s “The Birds” will feature five movements based on Renaissance and Baroque melodies that create visuals of different birds, including “The Dove,” “The Hen,” “The Nightingale” and “The Cuckoo.”

The second half of the program will feature Mendelssohn’s Symphony no. 4 in A Major, Op. 90 “Italian.”

For more information, contact Kory Katseanes at (801) 422-3331.
