BYU Chamber Orchestra to present pre-tour concert Feb. 1

The Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra will perform a pre-tour concert Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $9 or $6 with student or BYU ID. To purchase tickets, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

Conducted by Kory Katseanes, the Chamber Orchestra is BYU’s touring orchestra, which is in session every other year. This concert is one of three the Chamber Orchestra will perform during their tour to the British Isles in May.

The program includes works by famous English composers Edward Elgar and Gustav Holst. Elgar’s Two Chansons, Op. 15, includes a morning and an evening song.

“These works by English composers are colorful songs for our small orchestra,” said Katseanes. “The songs are evocative of folk music and the countryside of England—very appropriate for this year’s tour.”

This concert will highlight Maurice Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite depicting famous fairy tales including Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb and Beauty and the Beast.

The second half of the program is entirely dedicated to pieces by Mozart in celebration of his 250th anniversary this year. The Chamber Orchestra will perform Mozart’s Overture to “The Abduction from the Seraglio,” followed by the Symphony No. 35 in D Major, K.385, one of Mozart’s most well-known symphonies.

For more information about the BYU Chamber Orchestra, contact Kory Katseanes at (801) 422-3331.
