BYU Bookstore bears brighten holidays for children

The BYU Bookstore delivered more than 300 Christmas Bears to local charities Dec. 14 and 15, thanks to the generosity of BYU Bookstore customers.

For the last eight years, the BYU Bookstore has offered a free collectible plush bear to holiday season customers who purchase $100 worth of merchandise in one transaction. This year’s bear was available in November and has a retail value of $25. It can either be kept by the customer or donated to the Bookstore for delivery to one of several local charities.

Bears were delivered to the Utah Valley Medical Center Pediatric Ward, the Children’s Justice Center, the BYU Police Department (for accident or other victims) and to the Children with Cancer Christmas Fund, an alumni-run charity.

“It’s heart-warming to realize the difference a simple bear can make to these children and their families,” said Casey Woolley, media specialist at the BYU Bookstore, who helped delivering the bears. “One of the hospital staff mentioned she has seen mothers in tears as bears have been delivered. Kindness is always good, but in times of need or trial it has a powerful ability to lift spirits and provide encouragement.”
