BYU-based American Piano Quartet in concert Sept. 28

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present the American Piano Quartet in concert Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the de Jong Concert Hall. Tickets for the event are on sale at byuarts.com or at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322. Tickets start at $6.

The American Piano Quartet is comprised of faculty and former faculty artists from the School of Music, including Jeffrey Shumway, Robin Hancock, Scott Holden and former faculty member Paul Pollei.

They will be beginning the concert by playing “Lesghinka” from “Le Demon” and Variations on “Yankee Doodle” by Anton Rubinstein and then "Five Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak. After a brief intermission, they will continue with “Espana” by Emmanuel Chabrier, “Etude” by Frederic Chopin and “Fantasy on Themes” by Mack Wilberg.

The group formed in 1984 after Pollei received a piece of music for a piano quartet. The concert was so well-received that they decided to continue as a group and have since performed around the world.
