BYU-based American Piano Duo plans free recital May 4

Brigham Young University faculty pianist Jeffrey Shumway will perform with guest artist Del Parkinson from Boise State University as the American Piano Duo Saturday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The concert is sponsored by BYU’s School of Music, and admission is free.

Numbers to be performed during the concert include "Impressions on a Theme by Beethoven" by Kevin Olson, "Eugene Onegin" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Paul Dukas's "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice."

Shumway and Parkinson, who have performed together since 1984, met while studying music at the Juilliard School in New York City. They have since performed throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.

BYU professor Rob Sowby teaches and studies environmental engineering, urban water infrastructure and sustainability. He has particular expertise in the planning, design, construction and operation of public water systems. That expertise has been increasingly important (and regularly sought out) in the wake of apocalyptic wildfires that have taxed those public water systems.
