BYU Ballroom Dance Company plans pretour concert May 22

The Ballroom Dance Company at Brigham Young University will perform a pre-tour concert Saturday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse on the BYU campus.

Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $5 for general admission. They can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322.

The concert will showcase the performances the company will perform during their European Tour May 28 through June 24.

Tour stops will include England, France, Spain and Belgium.

The concert will premiere new competition medleys with music arranged and recorded by Kurt Bestor, as well as the new competition medleys that will be used to compete in the British Open Championships.

The concert will include a standard ballroom piece, "Cinemagic," choreographed by Jonathan Wilkins and Katusha Demidova and a Latin American medley, "Summertime," choreographed by Slavik Kryklyvyy and Karina Smirnoff. Gary and Diana McDonald and Lee and Linda Wakefield choreographed parts of both pieces.

Other dance pieces include a West Coast swing, a Charleston with live quartet and a fox-trot.

Costumes were designed by Linda Wakefield and Designs by Randall.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
