BYU announces new Heritage Halls construction

Construction on a new central building and a new residence hall will begin this fall at the Heritage Halls on-campus housing area.

In preparation for the new construction, crews will raze the final four original Heritage Halls residences-Broadbent Hall, Felt Hall, Fox Hall and Harris Hall-beginning this month. The new residence hall and the new Heritage Halls Central Building will be built in their place.

Construction on the new buildings will begin in September and is estimated to be completed by early Summer 2017. The new residence hall will bring the total number of new Heritage Hall residences to 13, with a total capacity of approximately 2,750 students.

The Heritage Halls Central Building will house offices for Heritage Halls administrators, study rooms for residents and multi-purpose space for a variety of activities. Among other spaces, the new Heritage Halls Central Building will also house maintenance operations for the complex and kitchen space for Dining Services.

During Spring and Summer terms, the multi-purpose space will be used for dining for summer camps, conferences and summer workshops.

Demolition of the remaining four original Heritage Halls will take approximately one month. The four buildings, finished in 1953, were among the first of the original 24 Heritage Halls residence halls.
