British Isles subject for BYU Religious Studies book

Seventh book in its Regional Studies collector series

The Brigham Young University Religious Studies Center has released the seventh book in the Regional Studies collector series, “Regional Studies in Latter-day Saint Church History: The British Isles.”

The latest volume is a collection of scholarly papers on the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Great Britain. It highlights two major challenges faced by the early British Saints — dealing with the disruption of life caused by those immigrating to America and the almost constant harassment from fellow countrymen who resented their religion.

The book also includes a photographic essay and a discussion of the establishment of the first LDS chapel at Gadfield Elm in Worcestershire, as well as a dialogue regarding the “Titanic” disaster and its impact on the Latter-day Saints.

The book’s contributors include Scott C. Esplin, Arnold K. Garr, Carol Wilkinson, Craig James Ostler, Clyde J. Williams, Richard E. Bennett, Jeffrey L. Jensen, Mary Jane Woodger, Jerome M. Perkins, Alan K. Parrish, David F. Boone, Richard O. Cowan, and Alexander L. Baugh, with an introduction by Paul H. Peterson.

The editors include Cynthia Doxey, Robert C. Freeman, Richard Neitzel Holzapfel and Dennis A. Wright.

Like the previous volumes in this series, a limited number of books will be printed. For more information, please contact Stephanie Wilson at (801) 422-3293 or visit religion.byu.edu.
