Brigham Young University to welcome Northwest Commission in 2006

University seeks public input

Brigham Young University will welcome the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which provides regional accreditation of postsecondary institutions, on April 5-7, 2006. BYU first received accreditation in 1923 and was most recently accredited in 1996.

The accreditation process, which occurs every 10 years, recognizes higher education institutions for performance, integrity and quality to merit the confidence of the educational community and the public. It also provides an invitation for public comment with regard to an institution’s qualifications for accreditation.

Additionally, accreditation invites institutions to document educational quality and continuous improvement and qualifies institutions and enrolled students for access to federal funds to support teaching, research and student financial aid.

Public comments with regard to BYU’s qualifications for accreditation must be submitted in writing and signed. Comments must be received no later than March 3, 2006, in the commission office at the following address: 8060 165th Avenue NE Suite 100 Redmond, WA 98052.
