Arnold Steinhardt to present free recital, master class at BYU

Arnold Steinhardt, first violinist of the internationally acclaimed Guarneri String Quartet since 1964, will present a free recital and master class Wednesday and Thursday (April 9-10) at Brigham Young University.

The master class will be in room E-251 of the Harris Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The recital will be performed Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Maeser Building Auditorium on the south end of campus.

Accompanying Steinhardt on the piano will be his brother, Victor Steinhardt.

Arnold Steinhardt began his violin studies in Los Angeles and at the age of 14 he had his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has subsequently appeared with many major orchestras and in recital. Arnold plays a Lorenzo Storioni violin from Cremona, Italy, from the late 18th century.

Victor Steinhardt is professor of piano at the University of Oregon, where he has been on the faculty since 1968. He has performed a large repertoire of concertos, solos and chamber music and has been a featured artist at the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival in California, the Sun Valley Music Festival in Idaho, Bargemusic chamber series in New York, the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Oregon Bach Festival.

The arrangements for Arnold and Victor Steinhardt to visit BYU were initiated by Brendan Joyce, a visiting professor and artist-in-residence at the BYU School of Music and a former student of Arnold Steinhardt.

In a recent study, BYU professors Jacob Steffen and Taylor Wells explored why some people are still reluctant to use GenAI tools. While some people might worry about an AI apocalypse, Steffen and Wells found that most non-users are more concerned with issues like trusting the results, missing the human touch or feeling unsure if GenAI is ethical to use.
