Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the U.S. to lecture at BYU Feb. 7

The first ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States will discuss Azerbaijan–U.S. relations at Brigham Young University during an Area Focus Lecture Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, His Excellency Hafiz Mir Jalal Pashayev will speak to those in attendance. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The Azerbaijan ambassador since 1993, Pashayev has also had a distinguished academic career. He taught physics at Baku State University and served as the director of the metal physics laboratory.

His publications include more than 80 scientific articles and books.

He received a physics degree from Baku State University and a doctoral degree in solid state physics. He also conducted post-graduate work at the Institute of Atomic Energy in Moscow and studied at the University of California-Irvine.
