Ambassador from Mali to speak at BYU Oct. 24

Abdoulaye Diop, Malian ambassador to the U.S., will speak at an Ambassadorial Insights Lecture at Brigham Young University Friday, Oct. 24, at noon in the Kennedy Center Conference room (238 Herald R. Clark Building).

Diop is a career diplomat, having previously acted as an adviser to President Alpha Oumar Konaré and President Amadou Toumani Touré, during which time Mali assumed the chairmanship of the Economic Community of West African States and the West African Economic and Monetary Union.

He oversaw Mali’s participation in the United Nations Security Council in 2000 and 2001. He was also a part of the creation of the African Union in which Mali played an active role.
