Ambassador of the League of Arab States to present BYU lecture Oct. 13

H.E. Hussein Hassouna, ambassador of the League of Arab States, will discuss “Current Challenges Facing the Arab World” during an address at Brigham Young University Thursday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Hassouna was appointed ambassador of the League of Arab States to the United States in July 2002, after having served for five years as ambassador of the League of Arab States to the United Nations.

The League of Arab States represents more than 200 million people living in 22 countries and provides a forum for its members to strengthen ties, coordinate policies and promote common interests.

A native of Egypt, Hassouna received his doctoral degree in international law from Cambridge University in England, followed by a distinguished career in international diplomacy, serving as a member of the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations and as a member of the Egyptian delegation to successive Middle East peace negotiations in Cairo, Tel Aviv and Washington, D.C., that led to the signing of the Egyptian–Israeli peace treaty.
