Allen W. Palmer to present BYU forum address May 23

Allen W. Palmer, a professor of communications at Brigham Young University, will speak Tuesday, May 23, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall for a campus forum.

Live broadcasts will be available on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU Radio and byubroadcasting.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium, F-201 Harris Fine Arts Center and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. Palmer will speak on the topic, “Information Has No Borders: Globalization’s Unfinished Business.”

A question-and-answer session will take place at noon in the Marriott Center Cougar Room. All are invited to attend.

The director of the International Media Studies Program at BYU, Palmer previously taught at Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) and the University of Mauritius. He served as a Fulbright Scholar to Namibia in 2004 and also taught as a visiting professor at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo.

He has completed teaching assignments for the U.S. State Department as well as governmental agencies in East Africa, the Middle East, South America and Southeast Asia. He also serves as an officer in the International Association of Media and Communication Research.

After completing his undergraduate degree at BYU, Palmer studied at the University of Southern California and completed his doctoral degree at the University of Utah.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
