1940 classic film "Brigham Young" screened at BYU April 6

The Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archive Film Series will show “Brigham Young” Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium on level one.

The event is free and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 114-minute movie.

“Brigham Young” stars Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell and Dean Jagger in Fox Studio’s biggest production of 1940. The move chronicles the martyrdom of Joseph Smith (Vincent Price), the expulsion of the Latter-day Saints from Nauvoo, and their trek under the leadership of Brigham Young (Dean Jagger) to the Salt Lake Valley.

Church President Heber J. Grant, who authorized Church historical assistance to the studio writers during the production process, called the film “a friend-maker,” and Salt Lake City hosted a historic Hollywood-style star-studded premier.

The event is hosted by L. Tom Perry Special Collections at the library, which holds movie memorabilia from actor Dean Jagger.
