15th annual Gerontology Health Conference at BYU April 6

The Russell B. Clark 15th annual Gerontology Health Conference will be held Wednesday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brigham Young University Conference Center located northeast of the Marriott Center.

The event is free, including free parking and lunch. No registration is required. The public is invited to attend.

The conference is titled "Generations Working Together" and will focus on issues such as defibrillators, the dangers of taking multiple drugs, fitness routines for seniors, and AIDS, SARS, Avian flu and the senior population.

This year the conference is being named in honor of Russell B. Clark, a 104-year-old local physician who is still practicing. He also regularly competes in the Utah Senior Games, said conference director Steve Heiner of the BYU Health Science faculty.

Janet Evans, Olympic gold medalist in swimming who holds the world record in three events, will be the conference keynote speaker.

Other speakers include Tom Finucane, geriatric specialist, and Robin McKenzie, specialist in infectious diseases, both from Johns Hopkins University and Hospital, and Larry Staker, DMBA medical director.

An agenda of the conference and a map to the Conference Center is available at gerontology.byu.edu.
