Another Brigham Young Univeristy graduate program has earned Top 50 status according to the latest U.S. News Best Graduate School Rankings, released earlier this month.

This year, the MPA (Master of Public Administration) from the Romney Institute of Public Service and Ethics within the Marriott School of Business came in at No. 49 in the public affairs category, complementing the BYU Marriott MBA program, ranked No. 30 among MBA programs, and the J. Reuben Clark Law School, ranked No. 37 among law programs. Both BYU Law and the BYU MBA have been ranked in the top 40 for several years now.

Each of BYU’s three Top 50 programs also earned high rankings for specialty emphases:

  • Business: Accounting at No. 4
  • Law: Business Corporate Law at No. 19
  • MPA: Public Management & Leadership at No. 23

“BYU’s admonition ‘Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve’ describes the experience of our MPA students,” said program director Lori Wadsworth. “They come with a desire for public service, then gain skills and abilities while in the program to better enable their impact. After graduation, they apply that knowledge and experience to their workplaces, their communities and their families.”

Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing. The grad school rankings in these areas are based on expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students. The data for the rankings comes from statistical surveys of more than 2,081 programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 24,000 academics and professionals.

This year, U.S. News also published new rankings for several other grad programs, including public affairs, physical therapy, speech-language pathology and programs in fine arts.

Other BYU graduate programs that landed in the Top 100 in the new rankings include:

  • Speech Language Pathology: 63
  • Education: 84
  • Mathematics: 86
  • Public Health: 89
  • Computer Science: 91
  • Engineering: 94
  • Nursing: 95
  • Chemistry: 96
