Sister J. Anette Dennis, the First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, delivered Tuesday’s devotional address, focusing on the profound peace and strength that faith in Jesus Christ can bring amidst uncertainty and chaos.
“He [God] is the same yesterday, today and forever,” she expressed. “He can also bless you with His peace, strength and capacity as you choose to walk forward with faith and trust in Him in spite of the uncertainty you may feel.”
Sister Dennis taught that choosing to follow Christ provides purpose and direction during life's storms. She encouraged the students to trust in the Savior's limitless ability to help, make faithful decisions despite uncertainty and embrace the blessings of covenants.
“Trust the Lord and believe that He can send angels to hold up the walls of your faith. Trust in His unlimited capacity to help you,” Sister Dennis said.
This same peace and power can be experienced through a covenant relationship with God.
She expressed that by keeping covenants and seeking guidance, you can call on heavenly power to endure the trials of life.
Sister Dennis emphasized that God saved some of His most valiant children to come to the earth at this time — the last days and “final leg of the race.”
“Choosing to believe that you are a valiant, courageous and strong son or daughter of God who was saved to come to the earth at this time and that you have a divine purpose and mission can change the way you view everything, including the uncertainties you face now and that you will face in the future,” she said.
Sister Dennis recalled how choosing to trust in the Savior during times of uncertainty deepened her faith and provided light and guidance through life’s mists of darkness. She encouraged students to choose faith and trust in Christ, promising that He will guide and sustain all who rely on Him.
“I testify that as you walk forward with faith in what the Spirit guides you to do, heeding the words of prophets and trusting the Lord, you can be blessed with divine peace and support, strength and capacity that defy logic and understanding,” Sister Dennis expressed.
