"Life is better when you share in the light."
Bruce Brockbank delivered a campus devotional today centered on sharing the light of Jesus Christ and allowing that light to bless others.
Brockbank, long-time head coach of BYU men’s golf, began by drawing on scriptures, prophetic counsel and invitations from Church leaders that encourage disciples of Jesus Christ to let their light shine.
Reflecting on his more than 40 years at BYU as a student, athlete, graduate assistant and coach, Brockbank described what makes the university unique.
"I've had the privilege to visit many universities in our travels to various competitions — some are very impressive — but there is something unique about Brigham Young University,” Brockbank said. “There is a spirit here and chances are, the greatest influence has come from people who simply chose to live the gospel — and let their light be seen."
Throughout his remarks, Brockbank shared personal experiences from his mission, his time as a student-athlete and his coaching career, emphasizing how faithful individuals helped him draw closer to the Savior.
"Some of the greatest blessings in life come through the people the Lord places in our path."
He also reflected on the challenges of balancing academics, athletics and personal growth, expressing gratitude for the mentors, teammates, students and family members who shaped his life and testimony.
Looking back on decades of coaching at BYU, Brockbank highlighted former players whose examples of discipline, faith and service demonstrated the lasting impact of choosing to follow Jesus Christ.
He concluded by inviting students to recognize those who have brought light into their own lives and to become that kind of influence for others.
"Cherish this opportunity — learn all you can and grow spiritually. But don't stop there. Be someone who influences others for good. Be someone who lifts, encourages, and strengthens those around you."
Brockbank testified that as individuals draw nearer to Jesus Christ and share His light, they become instruments in His hands, reminding students that "life is better when you share in the light."
