Before BYU and Liberty University square off on the gridiron Saturday afternoon, the two Christian schools are coming together to collect children's books that will be donated to children and schools throughout central and southwest Virginia.

The BYU Education Society and BYU Alumni Association, in conjunction with Liberty University's School of Education, are encouraging fans to bring new or lightly used children's books to the game for donation. Drop-off bins will be conveniently located outside the campus bookstore and the School of Education building, as well as at the BYU alumni tailgate in the Liberty Mountain Conference Center. The books will be collected by the United Way of Central Virginia and distributed to children in need.

Southern Virginia University, another local faith-based institution, is also supporting the project.

"I am excited and honored that this project is the work of three faith-based institutions," said Amanda Cox, a member of the North Carolina Central BYU Alumni chapter who helped organize the project. "All three schools have such strong beliefs in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it brings a huge smile to my face that we are working together to serve the children in central and southwest Virginia."

BYU fans who are attending the game or who live in the surrounding areas are invited to the pregame tailgate hosted in the nearby Liberty Mountain Conference Center from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. ET. Fans can also bring books for donation to the tailgate.

The project is part of the BYU Alumni "Cougs Care" program to host pregame tailgates that incorporate service projects for local nonprofits at each away football game during the 2022 season. Similar service projects took place earlier this season when BYU played at USF and Oregon.
