"Rich Osguthorpe has an excellent vision for undergraduate studies," Reese said. "I have so much confidence in his ability to lead, and I know he will make an immediate and long-lasting impact on our undergraduate students and the fulfillment of the mission of BYU."

Prior to serving as dean, Osguthorpe was a professor in the Department of Teacher Education and the Center for the Improvement of Teacher Education and Schooling (CITES) at BYU since 2019.

Osguthorpe received a bachelor’s degree from BYU and both a master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Michigan in educational foundations and policy. His scholarly research has focused on the moral work of teaching and teacher education.

Before coming to BYU, he was a professor, department chair and dean of the College of Education at Boise State University. While there, he received the Administrator of the Year award from the Association of Office Professionals for both the university and the state of Idaho.

Osguthorpe will be replacing John Rosenberg, who will be retiring this year. Rosenberg has held the position since 2018.

"I am profoundly grateful for the years of committed service from John Rosenberg," Reese said. "His consistent devotion to the students and his strong commitment to contribute to the mission of BYU will be sorely missed."
