Thursday, Aug. 14
Brigham Young University’s August 2008 Commencement Exercises will begin at 4 p.m. in the Marriott Center. The services will be broadcast live on most of the BYU Broadcasting networks.
Graduates are invited to celebrate graduation with fellow graduates at BYU Day, a festivity in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center. The 6 to 8:30 p.m. event will follow commencement and include live music, videos, dancing and a light dinner. Tickets are available at http://BYUday.aa.byu.edu or the Wilkinson Student Center information desk. The class of 2008 and children between 5 and 12 will pay $16. Alumni, family and friends tickets are $21, and the event is free for children four and younger.
Friday, Aug. 15
BYU August Commencement continues with the “Meet the President” event, where President Ceil O. Samuelson and his wife, Sharon, will meet and greet the graduates and their guests, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.
Friday’s individual college convocations are as follows:
8 a.m. — Marriott School of Management in the Marriott Center; David O. McKay School of Education in the Smith Fieldhouse; David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium; Physical and Mathematical Sciences in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom; and Fine Arts and Communications in the de Jong Concert Hall.
11 a.m. — Life Sciences in the Marriott Center; Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology in the Smith Fieldhouse; Nursing in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium; Family, Home and Social Science (Family Life) in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.
2 p.m. — Marriott School of Management in the Marriott Center and Health and Human Performance in the Smith Fieldhouse.
5 p.m. — Humanities in the Marriott Center.
Monday through Friday, Aug. 18-22
Brigham Young University will host the 86th annual Campus Education Week, possibly the largest continuing education program of its type in the world, Monday through Friday, Aug. 18-22 at various locations across the BYU campus.
This year's program, themed “The Journey of Lifelong Learning,” is co-sponsored by BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Church Educational System. The program will offer more than 1,000 classes on everything from education, religion, family relations and genealogy to history, health, science, law and finance. Presenters will include 161 returning favorites from years past and 42 new presenters.
Participants may register for the week, a day or just a few hours. Registration in advance by telephone, Internet or mail before Aug. 15 is $56, and registration at-the-door is $66. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 25-28
The 2008 Brigham Young University Annual Conference will focus on the theme “In Thy Light Shall We See Light,” taken from Psalms 36:9. The conference is a non-student event for the university community, including administration, faculty and staff, both full- and part-time, under the direction of President Cecil O. Samuelson. The General Session will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with individual department, college and division meetings scheduled throughout the week.
