Six ways to celebrate Bike Month at BYU and in Provo

May is National Bike Month. And here at BYU and in Provo there are a range of events, including free bike tune-ups, challenges and prizes. Check out this list for how you can participate.

1. Participate in the Provo Bike Challenge for Team "Brigham Young University"; Reward: Prizes

Provo City Mayor John Curtis has challenged anyone who works, lives and goes to school in Provo to join and compete against others in the National Bike Challenge. Weekly prizes will be given as well as the top finishers in the categories of organization/work site, individual-female and individual-male. When you sign up, search for 'Brigham Young University' in the search for your workplace (students: this means your school) to help BYU compete as a team.

2. Get Ready to Bike:

License your bike: Beforing bringing your bike to campus be sure to license it with Utah County, which can be done through the BYU Police in the JKB. Get the details

Be a good bike citizen: Park and lock your bike at bike racks, and not on railings, around trees or in buildings. Avoid riding on sidewalks during the last 10 minutes of the hour, during the class breaks.

Need to pump up your tires? There are four bicycle pump and repair stands throughout campus:

  • Between the Richards Building (RB) and the Smith Fieldhouse (SFH)
  • Between the Jesse Knight Building (JKB) and the Smoot Administration Building (ASB)
  • South of the Clyde Engineering Building (CB)
  • South of the J. Reuben Clark Law School Building (JRCB)

Don't have a bike? Try the BYU Bike Share rental program.
