"See the Wonder" at BYU's "Christmas Around the World" Dec. 6-7

This year’s “Christmas Around the World” celebration at Brigham Young University, “See the Wonder,” featuring the International Folk Dance Ensemble, will take place Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee in the Marriott Center.

Tickets are available through the Marriott Center Ticket Office, (801) 422-2981, or at byutickets.com. Tickets cost $15-20, with discounts available for children or individuals with a student ID (limit two per student).

This year’s theme, “See the Wonder,” will be demonstrated by more than 200 talented dancers, singers and musicians in colorful costumes discovering the Christmas traditions of different cultures from around the world. The group will perform dances and music from countries across the globe, including Bulgaria, Wales, India, Italy, Russia and Scandinavia.

The audience will follow a “professional photographer” as he “Sees the Wonder” of friendship, joy and hope through the lens of his camera.

In her third year as artistic director, Jeanette Geslison continues to add new elements to the program.

“This year’s performance of ‘Christmas Around the World’ will be in ‘tennis-court’ style seating, marking the first time we have presented our annual concert this way. The sound quality will be much improved with the new seating arrangement, while the audience experiences the atmosphere of a town square celebrating its annual Christmas festival,” Geslison said.

The performance will feature more than 200 BYU students as cast members and more than 200 guest cloggers from Utah and Salt Lake counties.

“My favorite part of ‘Christmas Around the World’ is seeing all of these amazing entities come together to create an amazingly diverse representation of culture and people in a highly artistic setting,” she said. “This show is one of largest productions in Utah County. ‘See the Wonder’ is a perfect way to begin this Christmas season with your family and friends.”
