Finnish Parliament member to address BYU student April 7

Finnish Parliament member Ville Itala will address the "Relationships Between the European Union, the USA and Russia" at a Brigham Young University Area Focus Lecture Wednesday, April 7 at 4 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium.

For more than 20 years he has been active in various roles from Turku city council to a distinguished member of the Conservative Party.

Itala has been chairperson of Finland's parliamentary Super Committee since 2003. In July, he will step down to run for election to the European Union Parliament.

Prior to his current position, he was deputy prime minister (2001-03) and minister of the interior (2000-03) while also chair (2002-present) and vice chair (1999-2002) of the Conservative Party.
