Elder Richard G. Scott to speak at Education Week devotional Aug. 21

Elder Richard G. Scott, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the speaker at the Education Week devotional Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

Although the devotional is part of Campus Education Week, all BYU community members are welcome to attend.

Elder Scott was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Seventy of the Church in 1977 and served as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy from 1983 until he was sustained an apostle in 1988.

In addition to his extensive Church service, he graduated from George Washington University as a mechanical engineer, served on the immediate staff of Admiral Hyman Rickover where he directed the development of nuclear fuel for naval and land-based power plants, and worked as a private consultant for a number of nuclear power companies.

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
