Elder Richard G. Scott to preside at BYU Commencement Exercises April 22

College Convocations, Presidential Receptions planned for April 23

Elder Richard G. Scott, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will preside over Brigham Young University's April 2004 Commencement Exercises Thursday, April 22, at 4 p.m. in the Marriott Center.

Elder Scott, a member of the BYU Board of Trustees, will be joined by BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson, newly named BYU Alumni Association President Carr C. Krueger, and Richard J. Hawkins, an economics major who is graduating with University Honors, as speakers during the exercises, which will be broadcast live on both KBYU-TV (Channel 11) and KBYU-FM (89.1).

Music will be provided by the BYU Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Kory Katseanes.

Most campus offices will close that day at 2:30 p.m.

An academic processional to the Marriott Center featuring the graduates and representatives of the BYU administration, faculty and staff will leave the Abraham Smoot Building parking areas on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

On Friday, April 23, President Samuelson will host two receptions in the Museum of Art for graduates and parents. The first will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. with the second from 4 to 5 p.m.

Individual college convocation assignments for Friday are as follows:

At 8 a.m.:

  • Family, Home and Social Sciences (Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology) in the Marriott Center.

  • David O. McKay School of Education in the Smith Fieldhouse.

  • David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies in the de Jong Concert Hall.

  • Physical and Mathematical Sciences in the Wilkinson Center Ballroom. At 11 a.m.:

  • Marriott School of Management in the Marriott Center.

  • Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology in the Smith Fieldhouse.

  • Fine Arts and Communications (Visual Arts) in the de Jong Concert Hall.

  • School of Family Life in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.

  • Nursing in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium. At 2 p.m.:

  • Biology and Agriculture in the Marriott Center.

  • Health and Human Performance in the Smith Fieldhouse.

  • Fine Arts and Communications (School of Music, Music/Dance/Theatre and Theatre and Media Arts) in the de Jong Concert Hall.

  • School of Social Work in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.

  • J. Reuben Clark Law School in the Provo Tabernacle. At 5 p.m.:

  • Humanities in the Marriott Center.
