Egypt's consul general to lecture at BYU Oct. 11

"Egypt-U.S. Relations" will be the subject of an Area Focus Lecture featuring Abderahman Salaheldin, consul general of Egypt, Monday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. in 238 HRCB.

Salaheldin was appointed consul general of Egypt in San Francisco on Sept. 1, 2004.

His office covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Prior to his appointment, he had been deputy assistant minister of foreign affairs for North America (2002-04).

His long foreign-service career, which began in 1980, includes being minister for political and congressional affairs at the Embassy of Egypt in Washington, D.C. (1998-2002); director of U.N. affairs at Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-98); political counselor in the Permanent Mission of Egypt at the United Nations in New York, dealing with the Middle East and peace keeping issues; and serving as the rapporteur of the U.N. Peace Keeping Committee (1992-96).
