Christian Asplund, BYU faculty composer, plans series of concerts in March

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents four concerts featuring School of Music faculty member Christian Asplund in March.

Concerts will be held Wednesday, March 10, Saturday, March 13, Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20. All concerts will begin at 8 p.m. The first and fourth concerts will feature Asplund performing and the second and third will feature music he has composed.

All events are free and the public is welcome to attend.

A concert held Wednesday, March 10, will feature Asplund and bassist Michael Lee. The performance will be held in the auditorium of the Karl G. Maeser building.

The March 13 concert, also held in the Maeser Auditorium, will feature Christina Jennings and April Clayton on flute and Matthew Dane on viola. The concert will be the Utah premiere of “Fla” for flute and viola, and a new work for two flutes.

Friday, March 19, the concert will be held in E-250 of the Harris Fine Arts Center (the Orchestra Room) and will be the Utah premiere of "4 Organisms" and “From Morton to Tom.” It will also be the world premiere of “Elementals/Ethers.”

Finally, the concert on Saturday, March 20, also held in the Orchestra Room of the HFAC, will feature a trio comprised of Asplund, Dale Speicher and Tom Baker. The trio will perform improvised and composed music by Asplund and Baker.
