The Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band from Brigham Young University’s School of Music will perform their swinging music in the concert “A Tribute to New Orleans” Friday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The Dixieland-style band, directed by Steve Call, will perform various musical favorites around the theme of New Orleans. Selections include “Basin Street Blues” by Clarence and Spencer Williams, “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans” by Henry Creamer and J. Turner Layton, “West End Blues” by Joe “King” Oliver, “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans” by Joe Avery and the popular traditional “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

Entertaining audiences with the music of the roaring ‘20s, the band has performed throughout the nation at festivals and conferences. They recently played for Hurricane Katrina evacuees when they arrived in Utah.

Band members include Michael Whatcott on clarinet, Randy Lee on trumpet, Brent Arnold on trombone, Jacob Jones on piano, Christian Davis on banjo and Justin Jesse on tuba. The group also welcomes guest pianist Bob Bailey.
