BYU soloists to shine in "Evening of Concertos" March 11

Winners selected from the Brigham Young University School of Music auditions will perform during the “Evening of Concertos” with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Kory Katseanes Tuesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $10 for general admission or $7 with a BYU or student ID and can be purchased from the Fine Arts Ticket Office, at performances.byu.edu or by calling (801) 422-4322.

The concert will begin with students Stephen Newbold, Kenji Hood, Spencer Park and Tiffany Allen, French horn, performing “Sehr lebhaft” from the Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra, Op. 86 by Robert Schumann; Michelle Broadbent, soprano, performing “Vissi d’arte” from “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini; and Emily Orton, violin, performing the Allegro moderato from the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D, Op. 35 by Peter Illich Tchaikovsky.

After the intermission, the concert will feature Rebecca Titelfitz, oboe, performing the Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra by Antonio Pasculli; Julie Beistline, violin, performing the Allegro from the Violin Concerto, Op. 14 by Samuel Barber; and Ashley Johnston and Nicole Johnson, piano, performing the Allegro molto from the Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos and Orchestra by Francis Poulenc.

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
