BYU Neuroscience Center hosts regional conference Nov. 3

The Neuroscience Center at Brigham Young University will host the Intermountain Chapter Conference of the Society for Neuroscience Thursday, Nov. 3.

The conference will commence with registration in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom at 4 p.m., followed by a speech by Dee Higley, section chief and research psychologist for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, at 5 p.m. in 250 Spencer W. Kimball Tower.

Higley’s research focuses on the role of genes and rearing experience and their affect on aggressive behavior in rhesus monkeys, as well as individual differences in alcohol-induced aggression in primates. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin

The conference will conclude with a buffet dinner and poster presentations at 6 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom.

Mentored graduate students will present posters on their research projects to get feedback on their work and practice presentations that they will make at the national meeting of the Society of Neuroscience in Washington, D.C. The Brain Institute at the University of Utah will award prizes for the posters, judged by university faculty members. Other invited institutions include Weber State University, Utah Valley State College and Boise State University.
