BYU Center for Service and Learning hosts "Party in Plaid" Nov. 10

The Center for Service and Learning at Brigham Young University will present the first in what will be a series of service events called the Service Date Series. “Party in Plaid” will take place Friday, Nov. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Terrace.

“‘Party in Plaid’ will provide a number of different service activities for students to participate in on Friday night, including making hats, tying blankets and making toys,” said Yancy Zimmerman, who works with projects for the center. “The center will provide all the materials for these activities as well as music and light refreshments.”

The Service Dates, which will occur every semester, are aimed at encouraging the campus to be more involved in service, according to Zimmerman. “As the name suggests, students are encouraged to show up dressed in plaid with a date.”

Established in 1999, the Center for Service and Learning has a unique focus on student service, both on campus and in the local community. Students are encouraged to participate in service throughout their time at BYU. The center offers a range of services to assist students in locating opportunities that best suit their interests, schedules and aspirations.

“Our mission is to provide all students with a meaningful service opportunity. We seek to instill in their hearts and minds a desire to give lifelong service,” said Zimmerman.
